June 18 (Bloomberg) -- A123Systems, a maker of lithium-ion batteries for rechargeable autos, said a fire in a modified Toyota Motor Corp. Prius car being tested by a South Carolina utility wasn't caused by its power cells.
The car, converted into a so-called plug-in hybrid with a battery pack using A123 cells, was destroyed June 7 by the fire, Cooperative Research Network, an Arlington, Virginia-based unit of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, said on its Web site. 'The cause is being investigated, and the battery was largely intact and functioning,' it said.
