It had been a mild winter in the South and Mid-Atlantic regions up until President’s Day weekend, when Virginia and surrounding states were blanketed with up to nine inches of snow over a two-day period. While some welcomed a taste of winter weather, many more found themselves stranded, sliding in snow, or the victim of a car accident. Virginia State Police reported to over 700 car accidents in the hours after the storm – some of them serious.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, one of the most serious weather-related accidents took place on Interstate 95 outside of Richmond, when two cars collided, seriously injuring one driver and causing the northbound lanes of the interstate to close. The crash occurred in Prince George County near the I-295 exchange. In addition to the injured driver, a passenger in one of the vehicles suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. In another Virginia traffic accident, a commercial truck lost control on the slick streets and ran off of the road.
Virginia State Police reminded drivers to stay off of snowy roads if possible and to drive with extreme caution when getting behind the wheel in dangerous weather conditions.
The Virginia car accident attorneys at Chandler Law Group sends their thoughts to the two injured travelers and wishes them both swift and complete recoveries.
